1. Moisturize dry locks. I have dry hair to begin with, and the summer sun and heat only makes it worse. 4. Conceal & protect. 5. Quick touch-up. As we’ve all been told on repeat, washing your hair every day is a no-no—it strips your locks of its natural oils, leaving it dry and frizzy. Spritzing your scalp with a dry shampoo—like Batiste—let’s you skip a day (or even 2) of shampooing while keeping your blowout looking voluminous and smelling fresh as new. (We won’t tell if you don’t!) The best part? No water needed! I suggest trying the Tropical exotic cocoanut scent—it smells like vacation in a bottle; $7.99, mass market retailers.

6. Skinny indulgence. If you’re looking to treat yourself to a poolside cocktail this weekend, why not mix something up that’s both light and yummy? Smirnoff’s new Sorbet Light vodka is only 78 calories a serving, so you can sip on a dessert-inspired beverage without all the guilt—even in a bikini! All 3 flavors are refreshingly delicious; $15.99, liquor stores nationwide.

7. Bright digits. As a self-proclaimed nail polish junkie, I own a bottle of polish in every color of the rainbow, but a perfectly bright pink should be a staple in every gal’s summer swatch collection. 8. Safety first! Yes, we all want a glowing summer tan, but we also know how harmful UVA/UVB rays are to our skin. Supergoop! Here’s the scoop on two sizzling looks from last night’s star-studded red carpet. 

Elizabeth Banks by Hairstylist Matthew Monzon

“Elizabeth wore an amazing Versace gold chain dress with a custom pair of Brian Atwood Shoes (her date).  With the drama of the outfit, we didn’t want her hair to be too insane, so we tried to downplay it a little bit, but keep the punk effect.  We came up with a cool, sleek ponytail that had a sculptural effect when fused to the head with barrettes in the back.”

Get It:
Spray a generous amount of Davines Melu Shied ($31.50/davines.com) onto damp hair.  Follow by putting a healthy amount of Davines For Wizards No 3 Universal Mattering Mousse ($26/barneys.com) throughout the hair along with a few pumps of Davines OI/OIL ($39.50/davines.com) on the ends.
Blow dry with a big paddle brush to try to maintain the sleek straightness, avoiding any “bend.”  Add extensions, when desired.
Create a masculine, sleek square look in the front.  Once the squareness is established, pull hair into a ponytail at the crown of the head.  Do this by first focusing on pulling hair from the nape, then the sides, and lastly the top. Secure with a bungee band and take a 1/4 inch of hair and wrap it around to hide the band.
Use 3x 2 1/2 inch goody barrettes and secure the ponytail at the nape of the neck, holding the ponytail to the head, which gives a good, strong structural shape.

“The whole theme is modern punk. Miranda loves signature style of glamourous, so we stayed along those lines, but infused some rocker by adding two braids on the side, which wrapped around and tucked underneath the nape of the neck.”

Get It:
While hair is wet, create a deep side part. Use Davines For Wizards No. 8 Quick Setting Hard Gel ($22/barneys.com) throughout the hair to create a solid hold.
On the side opposite the direction of the part, create 2 sections and french braid each section parallel to one another, wrapping them down around the head.  Tapering down to the nape, tie them off and tuck them under the rest of the hair.
Apply quite a bit of the gel mixed with the Davines For Wizards No 3 Universal Mattering Mousse ($26/barneys.com) throughout the rest of the hair as it creates longevity for keeping the looks. (Mixing the products is a trick Keough likes to use.)
With the remaining unbraided hair, blow dry with a round brush.
Using a 1 inch curling iron, separate and curl large sections.  Pin them up and let hair cool down, while makeup gets done.
Pull the hair out and spray roots with a bit of Davines For Wizards No. 14 Sea Salt Primer ($26/davines.com), for a bit of lift and blow dry a touch.
Finish off with Davines Defining Invisible Hair Spray ($26/davines.com) to lock the look in.

Hair guru Oribe helped Miley Cyrus embrace the punk theme of the 2013 Met Gala with spiked hair inspired by Billy Idol.

Here’s how he styled her crop.

Get the Look:
1. Flat iron dry hair with Oribe Original Pomade.
2. Spray Dry at the roots for lift.
3. Use hands to form spiked peaks in the hair.
4. Slick the sides back with Sculpting Cream.
5. Apply Rock Hard Gel to the tips of the hair for hold and, according to Oribe, “a little weirdness.”

If you’re anything like me, the erratic winter weather (warm, cold, rainy, snowy, humid, you name it!) has wreaked havoc on your skin & hair. Lucky me recently had to opportunity to visit the Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa for some much-needed pampering!

First, I tried the Warm Cocoa & Oatmeal Wrap which is just as amazing and delicious-smelling as it sounds. Expert esthetician Nina Patino designed the soothing treatment to soften skin while detoxifying and infusing it with antioxidants. It starts with an exfoliating scrub (warm flax seed oil, fresh lemon juice, organic brown sugar, cayenne pepper) massaged into the whole body to stimulate blood flow to oxygenate the skin. Next, I headed to the steam room to rinse off & prep for the wrap. The custom mix of warm organic oatmeal, flax seed oil & cocoa was applied and I was wrapped in a warm blanket for a blissful 20 minutes. Once I rinsed off, my skin was noticeably soft, super-smooth and energized.

Best of all, I followed the relaxing treatment with a mani in Essie Wicked and an amazing blowout from stylist Lauren Kane. She even taught me a few volume-boosting tricks to keep the lift in my fine locks looking bombshell status all night long! Lauren prepped my damp hair with Paul Labrecque Color Fade Prevention Foam to create fullness, then set it in pin curls all throughout the crown rather than using rollers, which can be damaging & tricky to apply, she explained. While the rest of it was blown out to a silky, bouncy finish, the crown had a chance to set. Once dry, she hit a few sections with a curling iron and finished with Paul Labrecque Volume Finish All Day Holding Mist…I even got a compliment from my cab driver later that night on my blowout.
