Even if you’re in denial about summer (slowly but surely) coming to a close, there is a silver lining: Fall is all about exciting changes and new beginnings. Think: the leaves changing colors, shopping for a fresh wardrobe, starting a job, heading back to school…and of course, treating yourself to a gorgeous new hairstyle! Check out this amazing real-life tress-formation, courtesy of Angelo David Salon in NYC—it just may inspire you to revamp your own look!

Jordan Schellens, a Project Manager in Manhattan, wanted to get a jump start on freshening up for the new season; admitting that she hadn’t gotten more than a trim in three years, she was more than ready for a cut and style swap. “I grew my hair out very long for my wedding this past May because the extra length allowed for styling versatility,” says Schellens, 26. “I want a fun change that is still pretty and mature, and will make my thick hair easier to manage for work and my upcoming honeymoon—at this length, blow-drying takes 45 minutes, so I tend to just throw it up with a clip instead.”

Armed with a few hairstyle photos from Pinterest as inspiration, Schellens entrusted her strands to stylist Ivy Camacho of Angelo David Salon. Camacho began by snipping off a little over 4 inches of length, then went back in and added tons of all-over layers that began at chin-level; this helped remove some bulk, add movement and fullness to the style, and frame Schellens’ face instead of drag it down. To create those lush curls, Camacho misted roots with Angelo David VOL Volumizing Spray, then blow-dried small sections with a round brush, directing hair away from the face. The final look is absolutely stunning, and proves that a little change can really go a long way.

What does Schellens think of her new ‘do? “At first, I looked down at the pile of hair on the floor and said, ‘is that all mine?!’ But I’m glad I made the cut because absolutely love my new look!”
