We know, we know: with temps set to hit a scorching 100 degrees today (the first official day of summer!), your hair is a lost cause. But don’t give up & toss it back in a pony just yet! Pat Sumpter-Davis (stylesbypat.com) has the scoop on how to look stellar–not sweaty–during the hazy, humid days ahead.

Try to find ways to work with the weather, says the pro.

Braids are Big! What better way than to get your hair off your face and outta your way than a cool twist?! She recommends this version: part hair in the middle, braid down part of the back on each side, put it all in a bun and mix it all together! No matter what style you decide on, incorporating a braid will add a cool extra touch.

Headbands are huge! Try a boho, beachy look by placing it around the forehead (think: Nicole Richie) or use it pull hair back and off the face when you’re wearing it down.

Product Picks: My clients SWEAR by Mizani Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti Humidity Spritz, reports Sumpter-Davis. It not only holds the hairstyle but it also fights the humity. Try to avoid heat styling, but if you must use hot tools, always use a heat resistant spray like CHI 44 iron guard. It creates a  barrier between your hair and the heat–you need the  layer of protection. Finally, banish sun, chlorine and salt water damage (all wreak havoc on strands) with an immediate rinse to remove buildup followed by regular clarifying shampoos. While you swim, saturate wet locks with leave-in or cream conditioner. The cuticle will absorb it and fill it so nothing goes in the hair shaft, creating less damage.
